The basics
What is Told & Treasured?
It is a calm, private way to record the people you love telling their own stories, and to keep their voices for your family. You sit together, ask one gentle question, and press record. The original recording is the source of truth and is never overwritten.
Do I need any special equipment?
No. Any recent phone, tablet, or computer with a microphone works. You record right inside your private archive in the browser, so there is nothing to buy or install.
Is there an appointment, interview, or facilitator?
No. Told & Treasured is fully self-service. No one from our side joins your recording, and there is no call to book. You and your family record at your own pace, whenever you are ready.
Getting started and the free first story
Can I try it for free?
Yes. Your Free First Story costs nothing and needs no credit card. It covers one story with one storyteller, up to 20 minutes, and up to 5 photographs, so you can feel what it is like before deciding anything.
How do I begin?
Choose to record your first story, enter your email, and open the secure sign-in link we send you. You will name the person whose stories you want to keep, pick one question, and record. There is no setup call and nothing to configure.
The Founding Family Plan
What does the Founding Family Plan include?
One private family archive with up to 2 storytellers, and up to 25 invited family members (coming soon). It allows up to 20 audio hours per year and up to 500 photographs, which is room for a great many stories.
What does it cost?
The Founding Family Plan is $99 per year, one simple annual price. There is a 30-day satisfaction guarantee: record your first story, and if it does not feel meaningful within 30 days, contact us for a refund.
What happens if my plan expires or I cancel?
Your archive becomes read-only rather than disappearing. You can still play every story and download the original recordings to keep your own copies. New recordings and edits simply resume when the plan is active again.
Gifting and redemption
Can I give Told & Treasured as a gift?
Yes. A gift is $99 for one prepaid year. The purchaser and the recipient are separate people, so you can give the gift of keeping a voice to someone you love.
When does the gifted year begin, and how long do they have to redeem it?
The prepaid year begins only when the gift is redeemed, not when it is purchased, so none of it is wasted in the meantime. A gift must be redeemed within 12 months of purchase.
Privacy, downloads, and ownership
Who can see my stories?
Your archive is private by default. There are no public profiles, no feeds, and no discovery, and nothing is shared on your behalf. Only the people you invite can ever listen.
Can I download my recordings and export the archive?
Yes. You can download the original audio of any story at any time, and a one-step export of your whole archive is on the way. Your family's recordings belong to your family, and you are never dependent on us to hold the only copy.
Cancellation and refunds
How do I cancel, and what does read-only mean?
Cancelling keeps your full access through the end of the period you have already paid for, then moves the archive to read-only. In read-only you can play, download originals, and export the archive, but you cannot make new recordings or edits until the plan is active again.
How do refunds work?
Within the 30-day satisfaction guarantee, contact us and we will refund your first-year payment to your original payment method. A refund ends paid access and the archive becomes read-only, but your original recordings always remain and stay downloadable. A gift can be refunded before it is redeemed.
Getting help
How do I get support if I am stuck?
Support is by email only, at hello@toldtreasured.com, so you can write whenever it suits you and we reply in order, generally within two business days. There is no phone line, live chat, or appointment. For your safety, please never include passwords, card details, recordings, or private family information in an email.
