Told & Treasured is built to be simple enough to use on your own. Begin whenever your family is ready: no appointments, interviews, or complicated setup. If you still have a question, the answers below cover almost everything, and you can always email us.

Getting started
How do I begin?
Choose Record Your First Story, enter your email, and open the secure sign-in link we send you. You will name the person whose stories you want to keep, pick one question, and record. There is no appointment to book and no setup call. You begin whenever your family is ready.
Do I need any equipment?
No. Any recent phone, tablet, or computer with a microphone works. You record right inside your private archive in the browser.
Does someone from Told & Treasured join the recording?
No. Recording is something you and your family do together, at your own pace. The product guides you with gentle questions and clear steps, so no interviewer or facilitator is involved.
Recording a story
How does recording work?
Pick a question, confirm everyone present knows they are being recorded, and press the record button. You can pause and resume, and you can re-record before saving. Nothing is saved until you choose to keep it.
Can I stop and come back later?
Yes. You can pause during a recording, and after recording you can take your time adding a title, date, place, and photographs before saving.
Is the original voice ever changed?
No. The original recording is the source of truth and is never overwritten or replaced. Anything added later is kept separately.
Microphone permissions
The microphone is blocked. What do I do?
Your browser controls microphone access. Look for the microphone icon in the address bar and allow access for this site, then try again. On a phone, check that the browser is allowed to use the microphone in your device settings.
Which browsers can record?
Recording works in recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox. If recording is not available, open Told & Treasured in one of those browsers and try again.
Signing in and account access
How do I sign in?
Told & Treasured uses passwordless sign-in. Enter your email and we send a secure link. Open the link to continue. There is no password to remember.
My sign-in link did not arrive.
Check your spam or promotions folder, confirm you entered the right address, and request a new link. Links are single-use and expire, so always use the most recent one.
Family and invitations
Can other family members take part?
Each archive is held by the person who creates it. Secure family invitations, where relatives you choose can listen and contribute with roles you control, are being built and will be fully self-service when they arrive.
Will anyone be able to change the storyteller's words?
No. The storyteller always remains the owner of their words. No one can silently overwrite a recording or a correction.
Downloads and exports
Can I download my recordings?
Yes. You can download the original audio of any story from its own story page, whenever you like. Your family's recordings belong to your family.
Can I export the whole archive?
A one-step export of your complete archive is on the way. In the meantime, you can download each original recording individually.
Privacy and your data
Who can see my stories?
Your archive is private by default. There are no public profiles, no feeds, and no discovery. Only people you choose can ever listen.
How do I delete a story or my data?
You can delete any story, along with its recording, from the story page through a deliberate confirmation. To request deletion of your whole account and its data, email us at the address below and we will handle it securely.
Billing and gifts
What does it cost right now?
Told & Treasured is in a private beta, so there is nothing to buy today. When paid plans and gifts launch, purchasing, renewals, cancellation, and gift redemption will all be self-service from your account. We will never ask for card details over email.
Can I give Told & Treasured as a gift?
Automated gifting is being prepared: a purchaser will buy a prepaid year, choose a delivery date, and the recipient will be guided through redemption automatically. We will announce it here when it is ready.

Support is by email, so you can write whenever it suits you and we will reply in order. Email support replies are generally sent within two business days.
For your safety, please do not include recordings, story content, family details, passwords, or payment-card numbers in an email. Tell us what you need help with and we will take it from there.
